Explore What Happiness Is
             © Michael Cavallaro 2010

Happiness seems to be an elusive or obscure subject to many people. Most people chase what they believe happiness is supposed to be. They have some illusion of it based upon stories they have either heard about, or have fabricated on their own. This is one reason why happiness is elusive. The fact that you would be chasing something someone told you about and not something that was real and true to your own heart makes it illusionary in nature. This then makes it elusive because you're trying to achieve an illusion that is someone else's fabrication or dream, not your own.

Happiness is relative to each individual. Everyone has a different version, however slight, of what happiness is. You cannot chase something someone has told you about and be happy. You must learn to create your own happiness. Another reason that often makes happiness elusive is that people chase after external things to make them feel happy. These things may be the emotional support or companionship from others, love from others or material things. The fact is that none of these things can ever make you truly happy.

True Happiness

The only way to true and lasting happiness is to discover the truth that lies in your own heart. This truth is what your spirit or soul has come to experience. Often times this can be quite different than all the things you're brought up to believe will create happiness. It can be quite different than everything you thought you were supposed to be. You might have a good job, a family, and secure position in life but still feel empty. You might blame it on your spouse, your children or your job. But this emptiness has nothing to do with anything outside of you. This emptiness is because you are not in touch with you.

Creating your own happiness involves discovering what makes you happy, what fills your heart with joy or what experiences you wish to have. Your dreams of what you would like to have or experience are the stories of your heart, your soul and your spirit. True happiness only comes when your human identity experiences what your spirit wishes to create.

Three things you can do to find your happiness:
1.Become aware of what you heard or were told that happiness was supposed to be 2.Spend some alone time, be still and as thoughtless as possible. Focus on your heart and feel what you enjoy the most in life. What makes your heart sing with joy? 3.Decide that you are going to experience and create whatever it is. Commit to doing whatever it takes.

Many people think that you have to give up your current life to create this happiness. This is not true in most cases. If you have this attitude you will create much distress and many difficulties in your life. If you are relatively happy with your current life you can maintain it as it is while you make the changes that fulfill your heart. People who truly love you will adjust as you change. Sometimes people who truly love you are not willing to change. When this occurs you then try to communicate with them about your new path. If they are capable and choose to understand you they will be able to make the change. They will then grow with you and eventually find their own true happiness. In this way everyone goes on the journey together.

The truth about finding your truth is that all lies within you and nothing outside of you can prevent you from finding your own truth. Only you can prevent you from finding that truth and happiness. Happiness is not found in the outside world. The outside world can be experienced through the happiness that you feel within.
